ABOUT DEREK
Derek is a New York City-based non-fiction editor with over two decades of film and television experience. He cut his teeth working at a public access station in Fitchburg, Massachusetts during high school and college. After interning at a commercial production house in Manhattan, he jumped into the industry working as media manager and assistant camera on commercials and unscripted cable TV shows, before eventually transitioning to post-production, where he has since spent over a decade, with the recent notable honor of serving as the associate editor for a 2024 Academy Award-nominated short film.
He is often accompanied by a small Pomeranian named Yoko, who is much more famous than him.

Proficient with AVID Media Composer as the daily driver, but can adapt and use other NLEs. Knowledgable in Adobe Creative Cloud, especially After Effects and Photoshop. Also very familiar with Da Vinci Resolve roundtrip to Avid, for color workflows.
